I've seen the rolling deletions of spam accounts/pages, but none have happened for a few months. Why not add some kind of verification for account and page creation? After a few edits to a single page I have to solve some basic arithmetic, and I imagine this would foil much of the current spam if employed more widely. I'm seeing what I'll assume are spam accounts appearing, meaning they're getting past the arithmetic Captcha and will probably start making articles more or less freely. MediaWiki supports more sophisticated Captchas through the [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit ConfirmEdit extension], and the [https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Extension%253AQuestyCaptcha Quetsy Captcha] looks like it'd be a good option; set the question to "name an author from the meme trilogy" and it'd probably filter out the bots. :I ran Check User on one of those accounts last week and again today, as a couple more have shown up. They were all registered by the same IP address, possibly manually, but did not manage to make any edits after all. Honestly, I wanted to avoid adding any kind of complex captcha so as to not inconvenience legitimate users, but I did install the StopForumSpam extension before reopening the wiki and it seems to have resolved the automated spam issue. The Questy Captcha suggestion seems pretty good and trivially easy for anyone from /lit/ to get past, though. I'll see about installing it. Thanks for the heads up and happy 2026. :::Users are autoconfirmed once their account has reached a certain age (currently a week) and they've made a minimum amount of edits (currently none) but it's possible to require email confirmation and a manually assigned user group, too. ZIP files will seemingly need to be allowed for upload to permit EPUB uploads, since EPUB files are technically ZIP archives. Presently an error "File extension ".epub" does not match the detected MIME type of the file (application/zip)" appears. If you open an EPUB file, there should be a file 'mimetype' at the first level, and opening this in a text editor will often show 'application/epub+zip'; this can technically be changed to 'application/epub' and my ebook reader will still open the file, but every file I've checked uses the 'epub+zip' combo. :I've planned to replace [https://lit.trainroll.xyz/wiki/Original_Content Original Content] with [https://lit.trainroll.xyz/wiki/Collaborative_Works Collaborative Works] on the main page, I've just been holding off because I don't consider the latter complete. But given how out of date the Original Content page is, it's probably worth it to swap it now. One problem is the spam filter is blocking outbound links, so I don't think I can add any download links at the moment (I've made a comment on the Anonymous Admin's talk page about it), which is a major lack.
:What are your ideas for the overhaul? and do you mean specifically the Collaborative Works page? Like I said, I don't consider it done, but I'd be happy to see more info added by others, or structural improvements. I've had it in mind to upload many of the works directly to the wiki, but I don't want to burden it with larger files without seeing what the admin will tolerate.
:I've edited the first Main Page template to replace Original Content with Collaborative Works, but I don't have permissions to edit the template for the entry below it.
